Plein-Air Painting Workshop – Sat 31st May 2025

The term ‘plein-air’ comes from the French for ‘in the open’ and describes the concept of taking your paints and easel outside and painting the landscape on location.

Join me at Stamford Arts Centre at 10am on the 31st May for my group plein-air painting workshop where I demonstrate (1hr) how to quickly map out your composition and capture proportions accurately, followed by, how to capture tonal relationships and establish the focal point of your painting.

After the demonstration, I invite you to head out into Stamford to paint the town. There are an abundance of scenes to inspire the artist with narrow alleys and interesting architecture everywhere. There’s also a beautiful meadow and river that’s easily accessible. I’ll be on hand to assist and advise if requested throughout the day.

At 4pm we return to Stamford Arts Centre to view our efforts and have discussion.
