Durham Paintings

Durham is a city I have only recently begun to explore but one that immediately felt compelling. The weight of its history, the drama of its elevation, and the way light moves through its narrow streets and across the river create a rich and constantly changing subject.

These paintings are created directly from life as I work across different parts of the city—from the cathedral grounds looking out towards the castle to the winding streets and bridges below. Each piece is an attempt to respond honestly to the shifting conditions, capturing something of the atmosphere and presence of a moment.
