Standing on the top of the stairs, one gets a unique view of London, which contains everything I want to paint. The foreground and steps proved to be challenging to draw accurately but necessary, in my opinion. Further in the distance, I could allow myself to be looser with the drawing. When one does reflect on older paintings, it’s a good thing to consider the things you’d do differently if you were to paint them again. There’s not much I’d change about this painting, however. For me, it works and is a true representation of my experience at this particular spot on this particular day. It remains one of my most pleasing paintings to date.
