St Martins in the Fields

£900.00

I created this painting on my way to Trafalgar Square to paint something entirely different. I remember stopping because the effect of the sunlight coming through the trees and the composition of St. Martins in the Fields had me transfixed. The Japanese call this effect of sunlight through trees Komorebi. It’s also just before rush hour unless it’s the weekend, and so the streets were quiet for the time of day. Working smaller and simpler was one of my goals for the trip, as was trying to do a lot with a little. It’s not easy to put ideas into practice; however, within this first painting of the day, I felt I’d achieved all of the things I wanted to.
