Raining hard on Trumpington St, Cambridge
I hadn’t even gotten out of the car, and I was already regretting setting off from home. It was raining as hard as forecast, but I refused to believe it. Sometimes you just have to get out! There was little point wandering around getting wet, so I stopped at the first opportunity, which was this view of St. Mary’s.
By squeezing up against the stone wall of Pembroke College, I was relatively out of the rain. I selected the smallest board I carry and began to paint. Painting wet objects can be a lot of fun. It helps to paint wet into wet, believe it or not. And the rain drops themselves, falling through the sky, make for great accents. By painting them dark against the bright sky and light against darker objects, the effect is easily achieved and very pleasing.
