Empire State from West 34th Street
£1,500.00
Outside and around the corner of my hotel, the New Yorker, I get my first view of the Empire State building down West 34th Street. The day is bright but not warm, and I decide to set up on the sidewalk between roadwork barriers, of which there seem to be a lot. It’s my first experience painting in New York. I met a number of people, especially families, just like in the UK. The standout visitor is a gentleman who doesn’t own a phone but assures me he gets on just fine. Knowing that I’m tired from the flight and probably only have a few hours, I really go for it on the first painting. The result is an Alla Prima first impression of NYC.
