Even in the winter, I like to get up early and get out painting as soon as I can. On Regent Street, it was still dark when I was setting up my easel. It proved to be a memorable experience for me, as the exchange of night workers heading home and day workers arriving gave me a profound sense that we all live different lives, which carry on regardless. The sun didn’t show, and it remained a very flat greyish day throughout the painting, which presented a good opportunity to practice muting my colours that describe the wonderful buildings, which work in contrast with the high chroma signs, clothing, and lights.
