Award Recognition for ‘Tim in the Studio’ at the 2025 TALP Open Exhibition

I’m delighted to share that my portrait Tim in the Studio has been awarded The Artist Exhibition Award at the 2025 The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Exhibition, hosted by Painters Online and Patchings Art Centre from 27th April – 15th June 2025.

This annual exhibition—affectionately known as TALP—is a joint initiative by The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines. It’s widely recognised as a valuable platform for both emerging and established artists across the UK. Open to a variety of styles and disciplines, TALP has earned a reputation for championing representational work—particularly portraiture and landscape painting.

I’m plesed to have won a cash prize and an exhibition with Patchings Art Centre planned for 2026. To have this portrait acknowledged is especially meaningful to me. Portraiture has always been a grounding force in my practice—it’s personal, patient, and rooted in life. This particular piece was painted entirely from life, and I couldn’t be more pleased that this kind of work has been recognised by the TALP team. It feels like a meaningful step forward.

TALP stands out not only for the breadth and quality of its entries but also for the warmth of its community and the visibility it offers artists through both print and digital platforms. To be included among so many talented painters is genuinely humbling—and I’m particularly pleased that Tim in the Studio has been selected at a time when I feel my work is growing in both confidence and clarity.

It’s also heartening to see that the exhibition continues to spotlight traditional skills in drawing and painting—especially in a time where fast imagery often dominates our screens. Whether it’s a portrait or a landscape, the work accepted into TALP tends to come from a place of sustained observation and care.
