Fine Art Classes at Stamford Arts Centre are run by Nick Grove RSMA. An established artist and oil painter Nick Grove provides a range of Art Classes from his studio and a purpose built Art Room at Stamford Arts Centre- As an accomplished artist deeply passionate about sharing knowledge, I’m thrilled to announce the launch of a series of fine art classes hosted at the Stamford Arts Centre. Whether you’re a seasoned artist honing your skills or a budding creative eager to explore new horizons, my classes offer a vibrant and nurturing environment tailored to artists of all levels.

Unlike academic Fine Art Classes my teaching philosophy blends traditional techniques with contemporary approaches, ensuring students receive a comprehensive education to unlock their artistic potential fully. These fundamental skills, honed over years of practice, have been the cornerstone of my own journey as an artist, leading to national recognition and membership in the Federation of British Artists. The process I teach is fundamentally the same painting process that I believe can be applied to all forms of painting, however, it is the application of that process that changes dependant on your subject matter, your experience, and your personal designs on the finished painting. For example, water colour painting and oil painting have very different approaches but the fundamental considerations of composition, blocking in tonal values, and refining are the same. So whether your preference is for Portraits, still-life, or landscapes, created using Oils, Acrylics, or Watercolour, you can benefit from taking part in my Fine Art Classes at Stamford Arts Centre.

I firmly believe that mastering core principles, such as the three dimensions of colour and the sight-size measuring method, forms the bedrock of a robust painting practice. The Yarrow Gallery Exhibition: SEEING AND BELIEVING

The Yarrow Gallery is a prominent regional gallery showcasing pupils’ work at GCSE and A level stages, as well as hosting exhibitions by professional artists.

My exhibitions at the Yarrow Gallery are fast becoming an annual event. I first started exhibiting here in 2018 when I was an Artist in Residence at Oundle School. I followed that up with another residency in 2019. Since then I’ve exhibited at the Gallery. Each year I offer a talk about the exhibition and hold classes with the students. This years exhibition showcases my continued development as an artist. The Yarrow Gallery Exhibition this year includes some new locations as well as established ones. Locations include Venice, Cambridge, Oxford, London, Stamford and of course Oundle.

The Yarrow Gallery was funded by Sir Arthur Yarrow in memory of his son Eric F Yarrow (G 1913) who was killed at Ypres in 1915. Opened in 1918, the building was designed to serve as a museum for both the arts and sciences by Headmaster, F.W. Sanderson who wanted the methods of research and experiment to be extended to all areas of the curriculum.

The museum housed a collection of pictures, specimens and models to illustrate “the history, development and beauty of the various branches of knowledge”. In 1970, the building was adapted to create a permanent exhibition space and the tradition of staging exhibitions of professional artists began.

During recent major restoration work, the building’s interior was stripped to reveal the original oak panels. The display area was redesigned on the ground floor and the gallery upstairs was opened up to provide further exhibition space.

The Yarrow Gallery Exhibition runs from the 6th November until the 9th December 2022.
