The Albatross, Wells-Next-The-Sea

Wells-Next-The-Sea has a special place in my heart for many reasons. It was where we visited the seaside as children and as parents. And it’s where I began my oil-painting adventure. I used to journey here in my VW Camper and stay over night at various secluded places. I especially liked waking up at daybreak to paint the terrific sunrises you get here. Now, a good friend of mine owns a flat here on Buttlands Park, so it’s become very convenient too.

The Albatross is a North Sea Clipper built in 1899 near Rotterdam and underwent a full restoration and a refit in Maldon, Essex, by the Marine Heritage Foundation before being moored at Wells-Next-the-Sea in 2019. I remember it being ‘Will’s of Wells’—a coffee shop that also offered a range of delicios pancakes!

Unfortunately, The Albatross left Wells-Next-The-Sea for a few years for further renovation, I expect, and so it was really pleasing to see it back and looking so good for 2024.

Our frames are handmade here in the UK by Period Frames, specialists in traditional, museum-quality presentation.

Paintings are finished in a Pisarro-style frame with imitation gold-leaf edging and are professionally dressed, ready to hang.

Because many of my paintings are bought as gifts, I also offer gift wrapping, which can include a personalised message and is available at checkout.

Each piece is created from life — a real place and time where I breath in what I perceive and attempt to show you, the viewer, what I see and how it makes me feel. My artistoc journey has led me to direct observation from life. An objective and subjective truth I can share.

I’m very fortunate to be increasingly receiving commissions for paintings from all over the world. It is a tremendous honor to be employed in such a way, and it is very much appreciated. Without the trust and generosity of patrons, many artists simply wouldn’t be working, including me.
