Kings Cross Station is an original oil painting by Nick Grove.

Original gifts for your loved one, or long-term investment, in fact, both!

More often than not, Kings Cross station is my entry point into London. And every time I consider setting up and painting there and then. But with the whole of London to explore and perhaps a few ideas in my head, I just don’t. That still holds true, as this painting was created on the way out of London. But it wouldn’t have been created at all if I hadn’t been unwell.

I was tired; that’s why I arrived at Kings Cross way too early for my train home. If you know me well, you’ll know I like to be early anyway. I’d really had enough of the cold and wet. I hadn’t been well at all and slept badly in my cheap and nasty hotel. Despite this, I had clocked up over 40,000 steps over the two days of painting. An had a nice bundle of new paintings to get back to the studio and sort out.

Ever on manoeuvres, I had paracetamol and ibuprofen in my supplies. I took two of each, followed by broth of hot chicken noodles soup.

After the tinniest of dozes, all snuggled up in all my winter gear, I headed outside to see if things had brightened up. This was the view that greeted me. With time to kill and the sun warming me nicely, I set up under an overhang just in case and filled my last 12x16in board.
